Arabica coffee, characteristics and quality of good coffee!

Arabica coffee, due to its special characteristics, is to date the most popular quality of coffee for those who prefer a lightly roasted beverage with sweet notes and a fruity aroma.

Selecting the best variety to create the perfect blend to satisfy the most discerning palates is the job of the producers, who bring not only their expertise but also their creativity to the table at this juncture. It is important to keep in mind, in fact, that when we talk about quality coffee, the latter is given by numerous factors:

  • Type of cultivation (soil and altitude)
  • Collection method
  • Processing and roasting of grains
  • Preservation, transportation and storage of the product itself.

Flowers, fruits and beans of 100 Arabica Coffee

To date there are numerous species of Coffea, the coffee plant that is part of the botanical family Rubiaceae. Among the more than 90 species, the most renowned quality, namely Coffea Arabica, covers more than 59 percent of the world’s coffee production.

Arabica and Robusta Coffee, the latter also known as Coffea Canephora, represent the species most commonly used by humans to make coffee, which is considered one of the world’s most popular and popular beverages.

The Arabica coffee plant grows in tropical and equatorial areas. With the onset of rains, its white, fragrant bloom also begins. Approximately after eight or nine months, the first fruits sprout: red, bright, beautiful, fleshy drupes like cherries. Importantly, it should be noted that with each rain a new bloom starts, which is why both flowers and unripe, ripe fruit can be found on the plant at the same time. That is why when harvesting is done, it must be done carefully by trained personnel.

Arabica coffee and its beans

The Arabica coffee bean, that is, the seed of the plant found inside the fruit, is flat and elongated, with a sinuous groove, unlike the Robusta quality bean, which has a more rounded shape and a more or less straight groove.

The main differences between Arabica and Robusta coffee are found not only in taste and place of cultivation, but mainly in their genetic composition: arabica, in fact, has 44 chromosomes while robusta has 22. Robusta also has a higher level of caffeine than Arabica.

Finally, in the cup, Arabica coffee creates a fragrant and sweet espresso with a sometimes caramelized aftertaste. The coffee cream is a delicate and pleasant light hazelnut color, tending to reddish.
