The new Bluemoon Coffee Maker by Caffè Borbone: the complete review
Design and construction: the right balance between style and substance
Among the new releases, the Bluemoon Coffee Machine by Borbone stands out for its refined and functional aesthetic approach. Seeing it in person you immediately notice a sober and modern touch: the surfaces are smooth, the lines are well-defined and the chrome finishes give it an elegant presence. It’s not just a question of aesthetics: the body of the machine is made of a combination of metal and thermoplastic, materials chosen by Borbone to ensure both lightness and a discreet robustness.
The touchscreen display, integrated into the upper part, is not just for show: it is clear, responsive and facilitates access to the main controls, such as the selection between short coffee, long coffee and hot water. This solution, increasingly present in new generation models, allows precise control without having to manage knobs or levers. The control panel responds well to touch, even with wet fingers, and reaction times are fast.
Some users continue to prefer the “old school” with more spartan machines like the Aroma, which make mechanical simplicity their strong point. However, Bluemoon responds with a proposal aimed at those looking for a good compromise between reliability, aesthetics and functionality. Furthermore, the compact dimensions (about 15 cm wide) allow for good insertion even in small spaces, without sacrificing accessibility to the tank and daily operations.
Daily practicality: designed not to complicate your life
Simplicity is the key. From the first time you turn it on, the Bluemoon shows that it wants to make the user’s daily life easier. The touch panel includes intuitive icons for short and long drinks and hot water, making everything immediate even for those who are not familiar with technology. The drip tray is adjustable in height on three levels, allowing the use of both cups and taller mugs without splashes or spills.
Every component that can get dirty is easily removed: the pod holder is removable, as is the tray, making daily cleaning easier. The 0.9-liter water tank is large enough to handle several dispensing operations without having to refill it too often. Furthermore, under the lid, there is a compartment designed to house the secondary dispenser or other small accessories. A small detail that is truly appreciated in daily use.
The auto-off function intervenes after a period of inactivity, helping to limit consumption and increase safety, especially in contexts such as the office. The machine uses only E.S.E. pods. 44 mm, a choice that Borbone has embraced with a view to sustainability: many of its pods are in fact compostable and can be disposed of with organic waste, also simplifying waste management. In addition, this format also allows for broad compatibility with pods from other manufacturers.
The noise during dispensing is contained. It is not completely silent, but the sound produced remains within acceptable levels, even in shared environments. The initial warm-up takes a few seconds, and during the tests the dispensing of a complete espresso took less than 30 seconds. In short, the user experience is simple, fast and sufficiently silent.
Experience in the cup and alternative: not just coffee
Bluemoon is not limited to the classic drink. Thanks to the double function selectable from the touch panel, it also allows you to obtain hot water instantly for herbal teas or infusions, a useful and appreciated function in the home and work environment. The presence of an interchangeable filter also allows you to use barley or decaffeinated pods without any problems, making the device more flexible than many similar machines. This makes the machine suitable for multiple family members, even with different tastes and habits.
As for the yield in the cup, the reviews available online report positive comments: compact cream, correct temperature, well-expressed aromatic profile. The 15-bar pump and the heating system used by the Bluemoon are aligned with the standards of the medium-high domestic segment. Some users have highlighted that the result is comparable to that of machines already on the market such as the Didiesse Frog, even if the two user experiences remain distinct. Some still prefer the more “manual” approach of the Frog, while others appreciate the convenience of the Bluemoon.
Unlike other machines, the Bluemoon does not include an integrated milk frother or a steam wand, concentrating its versatility on long drinks and infusions. For those who prefer cappuccinos and preparations with milk, it is possible to combine it with an external milk frother. In general, the orientation is clear: simplicity, convenience and wide compatibility with compostable ESE pods, also ideal for use in shared contexts such as small offices.
The machine does not require any particular technical knowledge to use. Once the pod is inserted, simply select the preferred dispensing and wait a few seconds. The final result fully satisfies those looking for a quality break without having to intervene on settings or dosages. In this sense, Bluemoon fits well into a market increasingly oriented towards ease and speed of use.
