COFFEE pods: why to choose them and which machines to use

Hello! If you are reading this article today it is because you probably need to buy a new coffee machine, therefore, immediate is the question: better a pod or capsule coffee machine?

Let’s see below why choosing coffee pods . ..

Coffee pods and capsules

Let us distinguish what are pods and capsules. Because, it is true that both are single-serve systems of coffee enclosed in a protective atmosphere package, they are very easy to use and allow us to make great coffee but unlike pods, for example, of capsules you have many more types of standards. So one type of capsule is only compatible with one coffee machine and not with others. It is also necessary to distinguish between original capsules and capsules compatible with the systems adopted by individual brands(A Modo Mio, Dolce Gusto, Borbone, Lavazza Point, Bialetti).

In addition, the capsule is composed of plastic material or is made of aluminum or are composed of both materials, and only the latest generation capsules are biodegradable since they are composed of naturally derived bioplastic.

Instead, the pod is a dose of ground and pressed coffee enclosed between two sheets of filter paper, and they can be used both with coffee machines created for these formats and sometimes with ground coffee machines.

Waffles and the E.S.E. system.

E.S.E. stands for Easy Serving Espresso, is the international industry standard of pre-packaging pods with 7 g of pressed ground coffee enclosed between two sheets of paper-filter. This is the only open system as it in fact allows compatibility of different brands and models of coffee machines. The most widely used and produced E.S.E. isESE 44 i.e. with the 44mm diameter wafer.

Aroma and taste

Pods are able to retain less of the coffee’s own characteristics, as these are made of filter paper rather than plastic or aluminum. However, we would like to specify that this is not to say that it is an inferior coffee. Undoubtedly the pod is a much more natural way to preserve pressed coffee than the capsule, plus many consider that using the pod is a fresher and more genuine way to enjoy coffee.

Regarding flavor and aroma, it should be kept in mind that, even the pods have their own protective atmosphere packaging in which they are hermetically sealed, so it is still a good coffee.

Environmental impact

The casing of the pods, as we have already mentioned, is made of two layers of filter paper welded together; they are therefore, 100 percent recyclable, totally biodegradable and can be thrown together with the coffee grounds in the garbage can. In addition, the material used is not harmful to health as it does not release any residue into the final drink.

As you have been able to read in this article, pods are practical, fast, and low-polluting, which is why you can choose them replacing the traditional coffee machine either at home or in your bar, restaurant, or establishment operating in the hospitality industry.

Coffee pod machines

A pod coffee maker should be chosen not only because we appreciate its style but also and especially because it should be easy to use. Coffee pod machines are just so many, so freedom of choice here as well. What you need to know, however, is that each machine, depending on its technical characteristics, produces its own type of espresso coffee, with aroma and taste that differentiate it from other models.

We can definitely conclude by saying that by using pods, we drink quality coffee while maintaining great freedom of choice, ease of use, and above all good eco-sustainability. Until the next article!!!
